WAYFINDING ENVIRONMENTS
What are the right environments for different directional signage solutions?
As a trade sign maker since 1973, we have become experts in the development and usage of various wayfinding sign systems. We cater to all sectors requiring signage to suit a range of locations and projects.
Jeremy Reeves, Technical Director, explains, “A recent project for us that required urban regeneration was the Battersea Power Station. Local authorities needed an innovative wayfinding solution in keeping with the illustrious upliftment project. On approach, we recommended our contemporary Waypoint fingerpost system. A directional signpost used to guide visitors and attract their attention to specific locations. It also ensures proper use of the space by expanding foot traffic to all areas. The signage was ideal for the location, due to its robust design and pristine styling. The system sits comfortably alongside modern street furniture and benefits from having seamless joints and sockets. The installation ensured added security with a bespoke ground sleeve system. The main reason to use this signage in such a project is to ensure the space is used in the best way.”
Kingsway Hospital in Derbyshire needed a wayfinding scheme to provide quick and clear direction to the staff, students, and visitors on campus. Reeves continues, “When creating signage for such a complex project, you need to ensure that it is visible and offers quality information. Infocurve totems are an ideal signage solution when creating large format signs. Design and information become highly visible as these signs generally form part of a monolith structure. Placed at motorway entrances, parking structures, and building entrances for quick and efficient directional instruction. Infocurve has a curved-face, aluminium substrate with a sophisticated and distinguished appearance adding to the aesthetic of the campus.”
He adds, “An alternative to the Infocurve range is our Post and Panel wayfinding system. Our Post and Panel was one of the first in the UK and remains the system of choice for many sign makers and wayfinding specialists. This highly versatile system offers a range of wayfinding solutions. Options include entrance monoliths, directional signs, car park signs, projecting signs, suspended signs, lectern signs, street nameplates and wall mounted directories. A diverse sign system and effective in any location and project requiring a range of sign formats for identification purposes.”
For rural and natural locations, we offer a variety of signage including interpretational display panels, lecterns, and noticeboards. Interpretational panels offer the option of displaying permanent and changeable information. Making it the perfect choice for parks and nature reserves. Providing its visitors with educational information and updates on the area as they arise. The display panels also receive additional protective treatment for longevity to weather the elements. A quality display solution with superior weather resistance.
“Another favourite for natures reserves and historical sites includes our lectern sign systems. Providing a permanent display panel or lockable display frame option for changeable information. These are ideal for displaying key information across a site with various points of interest,” says Reeves.
He continues, “Our Eco-Vision range, created from the Lynester noticeboard, offers a unique lighting system through solar display solutions. Offering on-demand lighting in areas where 24-hour visibility is required but where routing mains power is undesirable, impractical, or highly expensive. A great eco-friendly option to information display where needed. Harrow County Council required the installation of 20 solar units to facilitate 24-hour visibility of key information boards throughout the area. Key factors that influenced the decision for solar units was the cost, disruption and increase in their carbon footprint to provide mains power for illumination, hence the solar display units were the perfect alternative.”
Jeremy Reeves concludes, “Our vast range of noticeboards offers all sectors the opportunity to display key information. Whether permanent or changeable in a variety of ways and most locations. Noticeboards have many tailoring options and can be styled to stand out or blend into their surroundings. Noticeboards can be built to suit the most modest budget while still maintaining a high level of quality. Selecting a premium range product, such as our Lynester products, offers additional features and can also be made as monoliths.”
